    Abduction position:
    Foot is pointing outward (out-toeing/ toes pointing outwards)

    Adduction position:
    Foot is pointing inward (in-toeing/ pigeon toed)



    Biomechanics:
    The study of the human skeleton in motion using gait analysis equipment. ‘Bio’ meaning the body and ‘Mechanics’ meaning the skeletal structure.



    Dorsiflexion:
    Denotes the raising of the whole or part of the foot toward the leg.



    Extension:
    Denotes the straightening of a joint.

    Eversion:
    The foot is moved down (collapse) and toward the mid line of the body.



    Flexion:
    Denotes the bending of a joint.



    Inversion:
    The foot is lifted up (raised) and moves away from the mid line of the body.



    Lateral:
    The outside border of the foot.



    Medial:
    The inside border of the foot.



    Padding:
    Something soft that is put in between a lining and upper of a shoe.

    Paralysis:
    The loss of feeling in all or a part of the body.

    Peroneus Brevis:
    Denotes the tendon that stands out around the lateral foot during gait.

    Peroneus Longus:
    Denotes the tendon that stands out around the lateral malleolus during gait.

    Peroneus Paralayse:
    Denotes the loss of sensation of the tendon.

    Pes calcaneus:
    A foot with its hind foot significantly lower than its fore foot.

    Pes Cavus:
    A foot with excessively high arches.

    Pes Equinos:
    A foot with its fore foot significantly lower than its hind foot.

    Pes Equino Varus:
    A supernated foot and inverted foot with its fore foot significantly lower than its hind foot.

    Pes Valgus:
    A pronated and everted foot with depressed arch also commonly knows as Pes Planus or Flat Foot.

    Pes Varus:
    A supinated and inverted foot with the medial border of the foot off the ground.

    Plantarflexion:
    Denotes the bending foot down away from the leg.

    Pronation:
    A combination of abduction, eversion and dorsiflexion of the foot.

    Prophylactic:
    Preventing disease.



    Supination:
    A combination of adduction, inversion and plantar flexon of the foot.



    Valgus Position:
    Knock Knees i.e. Cross Knees.

    Varus Position:
    Bow legs.
